"The Atlanta Muslim community set a record year with regards to its participation and support in the Atlanta Community Food Bank's 2015 Hunger Walk."

On Sunday March 13, 2016, ICNF participated in the annual Interfaith Hungerwalk 5K (3Mile) at Turner Field. This is the 5th year we have participated in this event. This is a very unique event as we walked together with our interfaith group (ICNF, Sandy Spring Christian Church, Congregation or Hadash).

Our faithful walkers met at the ICNF masjid parking lot precisely 11:30a.m. Where we loaded a 14 passenger bus (courtesy of our Sunday School Parent) and headed towards Turner Field. We arrived at Turner Field about 12:30p.m. Where we met up with our other 2 congregations at the Jewish Federation Tent. Families who registered with us from other masjids joined us as well. We took group pictures at 1:15p.m. At 1: 45p.m we lined up at the start line to start our 3 mile walk. Our walk started at 2:00p.m. We could not have asked for a better day as the weather was beautiful and very comfortable.

This year we did something a little different, we were grouped by having one member from each congregation to walk with each other. Main point was to get familiarized with each other and get to know one another with a different faith. We finished our walk around 3:00p.m. After the walk we headed towards the Jewish Federation tent to gather our group. Once we were together, took some more pictures and loaded the bus to head back to the ICNF masjid. We had 21 walkers representing ICNF and our youngest walker was 6 years old. 3years ago this young man was in his stroller but this year he decided to walk on his own. We are very proud of this young man and hope he continues to join us every year.

Hungerwalk is very important event for us. It brings together 3 faiths. It is a great opportunity to represent Islam. This event is not only for religious purpose but also for charitable purposes. This is one of the 5 pillars of Islam. Allhumdo lila ICNF raised $835 to donate to the Atlanta food bank in effort to fight hunger. It feels good to know that we helped so many families who are struggling to put food on the table.

We want to continue this tradition with the 3- congregations as we have done so for the past 5 years. Our goal next year (Inshallah) is to have 10-20 families to join us for this worthy cause.

On the behalf of ICNF we want to say “Jazak Allah Kharin”to all the families who donated and to our faithful walkers/runners. A very special “Jazak Allah Kharin” to our Sunday school parents who provided us with the transportation.
