Alhumdulillah, the town hall this past weekend was a resounding success. With over 70 brothers and sisters in attendance, the engagement and enthusiasm from the community was tangible as our first town hall commenced on the 20th of March. The Masjid Director, Dr Faiz Niaz, plunged into the town hall by first laying the goals of the meeting and highlight the characteristics of successful masajid and some of the common pitfalls to avoid. Thereafter, he elaborated on just some of the accomplishments made in the past few weeks since the inauguration of the new organizational structure.
First and foremost, the ICNF website was completely renovated to foster intercommunication between ICNF and the community at large. What’s more, ICNF’s online footprint was enlarged to include social media such as Youtube, Facebook and Twitter to mention just a few. Realizing the critical need for better communication, an online forum was designed for the community voice their concerns and give feedback. In addition, a comprehensive and concise weekly newsletter containing all current and scheduled events at ICNF was launched. Just some of these events launched in the past 6 weeks include: The Ghusl Al Mayyit attended by over 50 sisters, Weekly Friday lunch boxes, the Guiding Lights Seminar and an interfaith hunger walk.
In an effort to provide complete transparency, the masjid director provided a detailed breakdown of the masjid’s cash flow. These expenses encompass the running and maintaining of the current masjid along with the recurring monthly donations. He then turned our attention to the horizon, the new masjid. This new facility requires funds for not only for keeping the lights on, but for the development of our community and all that entails (events, services, etc.).
If we wish to thrive rather than simply retain our previous activities, the community must provide financial support. At this point the floor was opened to attendees to provide monetary support for the operations of the new Masjid. Alhamdulillah, within a few short minutes, we were able to get enough commitments to cover 72% of the monthly operational costs.
