Funeral services will be handled by either the Lawrenceville Masjid or the AlFarooq Masjid on 14 th Street in downtown Atlanta. The North Fulton Islamic Center doesn't have funeral services at this time but nevertheless will send a representative upon request to assist with the burial and will assure an Islamic burial process.

Here are the steps that you need to take if you would like to utilize the Lawrenceville Masjid funeral services (North Atlanta):

1. Contact Dr. Hafiz Abdul Ghaffar Khan at (770) 339-1122 or cell (678) 438-1368. You can also go to the web site http://georgiaislamicinstitute.org . The Muslim Cemetery of Lawrenceville contact will escort you throughout this difficult time and will provide your deceased loved one with an Islamic and dignified burial.
The Lawrenceville Cemetry is run by the Georgia Islamic Institute of Religious and Social Sciences (GIIRSS), located at 177 Simonton Road, Lawrenceville, GA 30045 or for short the “Lawrenceville Masjid”. You are required to fill out the following application and the cost is $1,150.00 to provide the Gusul, shroud, and cemetery plot : Muslim Cemetery OF Lawrenceville
2. The Muslim Cemetery of Lawrenceville has made arrangements with TOM M. WAGES, Funeral Directors. There is no need to contact TOM M. WAGES Funeral Home as the Masjid personnel will take care of these arrangements after you fill the attached application and authorization form: Georgia Islamic Institute of Religious and Social Sciences, Inc.
The Funeral home will arrange for pick up of deceased from home or hospital. After pick up the Funeral Home will provide a space for Lawrenceville Masjid personnel to wash and prepare the deceased for burial. After preparing the deceased for burial the funeral home will drive the deceased back to Lawrenceville Masjid for Salat Al Mayit or Janaza. After Salat on the deceased the Funeral Home will take the deceased to the burial site in a motorcade procession. The Funeral Home will charge $1180.00 USD in consideration for their services. The advantage in going to Lawrenceville is that the Tom M. WAGES the funeral home will be responsible for the excavation of grave, back filling and installing grass sod, as per Gwinnett County Conditions.
3. The Lawrenceville Masjid will contact C&H Memorials to provide a marker for the grave for a charge of $125.00. C&H will provide and place standardized flat stone marker (per Gwinnett County Conditions), engraved with name, date of birth & death.

Here are the steps that you need to take for burial arrangements from The AlFarooq Masjid at the griffin burial plot (South Atlanta):

1.Call AlFarooq Masjid phone # 404.874.7521 and select option 2 for Funeral contact information

2.Call the contact # with funeral information and you will be provided with contact information which includes payment and contacts for Funeral home, documentation, ghusul/burial. Family member of the deceased should contact directly. Only in absence of a family member, the imam or assigned individual from the mosque may contact

3.Have the body moved to licensed and registered funeral home. Family has the choice of either using the recommended Funeral or uses another licensed and registered funeral home. The body to the cemetery should be transported by the same funeral home or a person authorized by the funeral home in writing for each burial.

4.An authorized person for the deceased should schedule a meeting to visit AlFarooq Masjid and complete the required forms. Please bring the following information:

a. ID with photo of the deceased person and authorized person

b. Hospital release paper and if using a funeral home other than recommended, then paperwork from funeral home is required.

c. Full payment as indicated in step 2 prior to burial unless specific arrangements made with the Cemetery management


5. Setup ghusl appointment and burial time with person authorized by cemetery for burial. As of 5/17/08 a person authorized by AlFarooq has to be present at the cemetery for burial. This includes burial of children also – NO EXCEPTION.

Note: Effective 5/17/2008 NO aboveground construction of any type on any grave will be PERMITTED. This includes existing and new graves. Also no planting on graves will be permitted Any violation will result in removal of such construction, without exception or notice to family. The Cemetery Management will place a standard headstone on all new graves, with legal name listed in the cemetery document, date of birth, date of death and plot number. Everyone’s cooperation is appreciated………

Directions to the cemetery:
1. I-75 south to exit # 235 (rt. 19 & 41 - Jonesboro rd)
2. Drive for approximately 11-12 miles until you come to an intersection with McDonough Rd
3. Cross McDonough Rd and drive for about 3/4 mile and Dorsey Nursery will be to the right
4. Make a right immediately after Dorsey Nursery onto LoveJoy Rd
5. Drive for about one mile and LoveJoy Middle School will be to the right
6. Immediately after the school on the right is the cemetery.

FROM PEACHTREE NORTH – Come southbound on Peachtree St. Bear right onto Spring St. at Peachtree Christian Church. Continue south on Spring St. Spring Hill will be on the right side of the street at 10th St.

FROM DECATUR – Come toward downtown Atlanta on Ponce de Leon Avenue to West Peachtree St. Turn right on West Peachtree and continue north to 12th St. at the Midtown Post Office. Turn left on 12th St. and go one block to stop sign. Turn left onto Spring St. Spring Hill will be on the right side of the street at 10th St.
